View Full Version : Coaster Wars 1.0!

This game is a pretty cool game that we coaster nerds will probably enjoy. There will be 2 teams of 3 people, or more or less, depending on participation. Each team will represent a Theme Park Chain. I will post a category (ex: Wooden Coasters) and through PM, the members of a team will decide which coaster from their chain to use as their play. You will have 24 hours from the time I post the category to the time your play is due. You can only use a coaster once in the game, and there will be as many rounds in the chain as I say there are. I will decide which coaster wins, but I will change it up sometimes. There may be a poll 1 round, I might ask a random member another. You never know.
The first game will be Cedar Fair vs. Six Flags. Post in this thread if you would like to play, and I will assign teams.

Well each round will take 1-3 days and each game will go on for weeks. The first one will be Six Flags vs. Cedar Fair, and it will probably take a while due to how many rides and parks both of them have.
I'm not going to consider Busch parks part of Blackstone yet, and PARCS is a big chain. I don't think we will have trouble running out of chains for a while.

They have quite a few parks though. They racked up most of the Six Flags parks that were sold off a few years ago.

And found a way to ruin them in ways SF couldnt do lol. If they were still SF parks they would be better then they were before they was sold. Shapiro has done a great job with the Current parks.

I just randomly chose teams, so if you don't like your team, it's nothing personal. I don't see why you wouldn't like your team, but if there is a problem, send me a PM.
I will post a category and the 2 team members have 48 hours to decide on a ride, and the team leader will post the ride that your team chose. As soon as both teams post their ride, I will use my way to decide which team wins. Let me know if you don't understand the game.

Alright, after about, I don't know, 15 minutes of dicussion, me and Tiger have decided to go with Top Thrill Dragster. Launching you up over 420ft at speeds that can reach up to 120 mph. This 17 second juggernut of thrill maybe be short, but is an intense shot of adrenaline that will "Race you to the Sky"

Vic and I have decided on Kingda Ka. I know, so maybe it is the obvious choice, but what can we do? You guys came out of the gates with machine guns blazing. There was talk of a few other things, but really. What but K.K. can compete with a monster such as the Dragster in this category? Everything else looks like a kiddie ride in it's wake.
I was weary at first because I've heard talk of Kingda Ka being closed a lot, but Vic gave me the go ahead. With a 418 foot drop and a top speed of 128 mph, it can only be Kingda Ka: The fastest, tallest, and most mysteriously named rollercoaster in the world!

Eh. It doesn't really matter, it was bound to come down to Top Thrill Dragster and Kingda Ka at some point, no matter what the category. Might as well get it over with sooner than later.
Here's my first argument, just based on layout:
Kingda Ka hits a 129 foot hill before the brake run, which Top Thrill Dragster doesn't have.
I also haven't ridden either, so I personally have no way of knowing whether or not that hill improves the ride experience. But for the sake of winning, I'll say that it makes all the difference in the world.:cool:
Kingda Ka takes every thing top thrill dragster (no caps for a reason!) has and makes it better!
Longer? Check
Taller? Check
Bigger Drop? Check (KK drops 418' and TTD is only 420'!)
Faster? Check (KK 128 mph vs TTD 120 mph)
Sounds pretty simple really.

Well, 10-20 ft. may not mean much when you're standing in the clouds, but on the ground you could die when falling from a distance of that nature. It's all about perspective.

Last time I checked, a 420' drop is bigger than a 418' drop. ;)

Well, kingda Ka has OTSR while TTD has the lap bar, giving the sensation of nothing holding you in and only 120 mph im the face, whil KK has the OTSR's which can reduce some airtime, and at the drop, your body is stopped by the shoulder part.
Plus, TTD is the first Stra-coaster (or coaster to reach over 400ft) and even though it lacks the extra 129ft hill at the end, it is only 1 second slower than KK. I don't think that hill takes one second to clear (i have ridden it, it slows down at the end).
Last time I checked, a 420' drop is bigger than a 418' drop. ;)
yes my friend BUT KK drops 418' but is 450'+ tall... TTD is only 420' feet tall with a 400' drop..

I have decided that Kingda Ka wins! Congrats Team Six Flags!
Kingda Ka may have OTSR's, but that is really its only downfall. It is taller, faster, has an extra hill, and is certainly better themed.
For the next round, we are doing launched coasters again, but remember, you can't use a coaster twice.

Me and Tiger have agreed to go with Xcelerator, a high thrill launch coaster that send you over 80 MPH and up a 205 foot Top Hat, sending you 90 degrees twice. Even though the ride lasts a minute, it gives you intense 4G's.

1300' long and 218' high with a top hat-inside (180 degree inversion) and a 190' long tunnel... all below FREEZING! It has sliding side-to-slide loading tracks which makes it possible to run 2 trains on a launch coaster that reaches speeds of up to 70 mph in 3.8 seconds!

Well I think Xcellerator wins this round. Both coasters launch and have about the same ride time. I just prefer a spread-out, air-time filled, and smooth-flowing Intamin coaster like Xcelerator to a compact Premier Coaster.

Lol. I just find mr freeze unappealing. Xcelerator looks beast for real lol. 80 mph in 2.3 seconds is insane lol.
I've never been on Xcelerator.. i have ridden both of the Mr. Freeze's and think they are both awesome. Oh well.. back to the drawing board!

Six Flags is improving, and I have been very impressed with some of their recent projects, but besides from projects completed by Paramount, Cedar Fair's theming is nonexistant.

I'm kind of surprised you chose Bizarro. You could have done Mr. Freeze again, or you have 6 Batman: The Rides. There is always Terminator, but I'm guessing that you are saving it for later. Batman: The Dark Knight would have had a good chance and there are 3 of those.

We (me and tiger) will go with Volcano: Blast Coaster. A launching inverted coaster that send you over 60 MPH through 4 inversions, a roll out, and actually a volcano that blast fire in your face.

After this round, I'm going to have to quit playing for a while. I actually won't be online much for a few weeks, busy with a crapload of stuff. I told Vic I'm cool if he wants to find a new partner, or if you want to pause the game until I'm able to give it more attention that's okay too, but I don't know when I'll be doing that. Whatever is fine, I just wanted to let you guys know.

Tiger and I discussed, well go with the new, NASCAR themed Intimidator. This 232 foot monster sends you through 8 camelbacks, a hammerhead banked turn, and a unique helix. Plus, it includes a new state of the art seating that gives riders better views, and better experience.

Um...Goliath takes the gold in this round. It remains in my top 5, and a roller coaster that I have ridden many times that I love just can't compete with a coaster under construction.

Well I have to go from personal experience and... IMO.. The Texas Giant is the roughest coaster i have ever been on! I loved it though!

Now I said that I wouldn't judge every round, and this is the first time that someone else judged. MrFunky1337 from another site said that Texas Giant is rougher. Team Six Flags wins!

For the judging on that round, I asked on a forum on another site which was rougher and MrFunky1337 was the judge just because he was the first person to answer. I'm going to still judge some rounds, but I am going to look for some creative ways to judge as well.
