View Full Version : 2010 Confirmed Park Additions (as of 6/10/10)

Austin

Ok so I got the idea from Screamscape as I tried to figure out what parks were getting what in the next year. RCDB.com also gave me some inspiration as well. I will be keeping this thread up-to-date for 2010 at all major US parks, and a few small parks almost everyone knows. I'll list the parks in alphabetical order.

In the order the info is displayed, the first part is, if it's a coaster, it will say coaster, then the type, then the name and then maker, and other stats we know.

If it's something else other than a coaster, it will start off as the type then the type of ride being added and then the name, followed by other information.

palmer
09-30-2009, 05:42 PM
^My question is how are you gonna paint a old white wooden coaster? It would look nasty with some colors. I don't see a wooden coaster with any other color other han brown, white or grayish white

elvisboogens
09-30-2009, 05:56 PM
Why does a wooden coaster need to be painted? The fact that it looks like wood because it is wood is enough appeal.

palmer
09-30-2009, 09:17 PM
Screamscape:
(9/30/09) Screamscape has been informed that Kings Dominion has also confirmed that Scooby Doo will be coming out of the park’s dark ride for the 2010 season. The ride will remain open, just all the Scooby Doo themeing will be removed.

Well, you can add that to the list, sort of.

nitrofan
09-30-2009, 10:03 PM
so what . trains?

Actually, trains can completely change the ride experience. PTC trains are the lowest level of wooden coaster trains (TG's current trains). Just better trains will probably be an improvement.

SFNE is getting the reuturn of the Glow in the Park Parade and Thunderbolt is going to be painted.

Do you have a link for this>

Why does a wooden coaster need to be painted? The fact that it looks like wood because it is wood is enough appeal.

A lot of it has to do with treating the wood. The wooden coasters that are painted are usually the older ones that were built before treated wood was a big deal.

acquaz10
10-01-2009, 04:59 PM
http://www.sixflags.com/newEngland/info/News_2010SeasonPass.aspx

They are obviously going to repaint it white. Have you people seen Thunderbolt. It hasn't been painted once since 1941. Wood coasters need to be painted if they were painted when they were built. Thunderbolt is a white woodie so its all chipped and it looks really unsafe, even though it is.

nitrofan
10-01-2009, 10:25 PM
Ok, thanks.

That's a long time for a coaster to go without paint!

palmer
10-02-2009, 05:32 PM
Screamscape
(10/2/09) According to the LA Times, if their earlier report that the 2010 attraction for SFMM is indeed a new coaster of some kind, this would rekindle the battle for the Coaster Crown between Magic Mountain and Cedar Point. If built, The Mountain would tie with The Point, with each park featuring 17 coasters.

So nothing is being removed. Just pointing out, they are trying to tie the record.

elvisboogens
10-02-2009, 05:34 PM
You know, if they got Chang it would move them closer to CP. Not that they will.

palmer
10-02-2009, 05:36 PM

Lol. I bet its a family coaster. Or a kiddie coaster

What's the difference? That place already has a good selection of kid rides and kids coasters, they just don't make a big deal out of them. They just need to make an effort to advertise them better.

Austin
10-02-2009, 11:42 PM
Because why would they spend all this money on stuff this year, they only spent 100Million last year for new stuff. They are on track this year to spend more with all these renovations, the new waterpark, new coaster, and then generally maintence and repair work over the off-season.

$105 Million has been approved by the bankruptcy courts for expansion in 2010 and $110 has been approved for 2011. Unless they get out of bankruptcy soon, this is the maximum they will spend on park improvements or expansion.

Six Flags Great America Purchases Historic Wooden Coaster

Purchase of Classic Wooden Coaster from Kiddieland Amusement Park Keeps Chicago History Alive

Six Flags Great America announced today the purchase of a vintage wooden roller coaster, The Little Dipper. The coaster operated at Kiddieland Amusement Park from 1950 until September of this year when the amusement park closed. The coaster will retain its original name and become the 14th coaster in Six Flags Great America's impressive line-up of roller coasters.

The Little Dipper was designed by Herbert Schmeck and built by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company in 1950. The family-friendly coaster features a three story tall lift hill and is designed as a figure eight track which runs 700 feet in length. It has been honored with the ACE Coaster Classic award by the American Coaster Enthusiasts.

"The Little Dipper has been a fond family tradition for over 50 years," said
Hank Salemi, Six Flags Great America's park president. "We wanted to preserve this important piece of Chicago history for families to experience for many more years to come."

Guests can create a season of memories on The Little Dipper with a 2010 Season Pass which is on sale now at sixflags.com for the low price of $64.99. Season Passes include admission to the best water park in the nation, Hurricane Harbor, as well as discount-packed value book with more than $500 dollars worth of offers including four Bring-A-Friend-Free tickets.

Six Flags Great America is located between Chicago and Milwaukee and offers fun for the entire family with heart-pounding roller coasters including Raging Bull, a free 15-acre water park, spectacular shows and parades, three children's themed areas including Wiggles World and meet and greets with Six Flags' world-famous cast of characters, including Mr. Six.

I also took Demon Drop off of Knott's Berry Farm and Screamin' Swing off of California's Great America.

^Um....the Screamin' Swing is true.

http://travel.latimes.com/daily-deal-blog/index.php/californias-great-am-5682/

California’s Great America officials expect the Screamin’ Swing ride at Knott’s Berry Farm to be relocated to the Santa Clara theme park by summer 2010.
Knott’s is removing the pneumatically powered pendulum swing ride to make room for Demon Drop, a 26-year-old thrill ride being removed from Cedar Point and relocated to the Buena Park theme park.

Demon Drop is gone, and the Swing is hanging on a limb. The Swing is most likely gone. This was the gameplan. Since Dorney popped up out of nowhere, Knott's gets screwed over twice, losing out on Demon Drop and losing Screamin' Swing.

You can take out Demon Drop, but the Screamin' Swing is heading to California's Great America.

Screamscape:

(12/7/09) According to a source that went by the park the other day, the noticed that some large sections of Batman have indeed been repainted Blue. Given the location however, this may be a difficult thing to get pictures of from a public area unless someone local knows a good spot.

There's also pictures on the site. maybe, we can see another Bizarro. I wouldn't be happy with it. After a whole season at looking at a royal purple colored coaster with annoying advertisements (at the park/computer/TV) and a storyline about someone who speaks his english backwards, you start to get sick of it.

Anyone know Batman villians (just saying. maybe a storyline) with a blue color to him/her?

Well, an very helpful man at Great Adventure Online took some aerial photos of that hibernating park, and he does this often. And one thing became very noticable and another has noticed the other one. First off, Twister (Huss) is being "disassembled". The car, supports and the turny thingy are placed in front of the ride's sign, station, and remains. Nobody knows if it's a renovation of the messed up cycle of the ride that has occurred often in the year, more towards the beginning, or if it is removed. Nothing to confirm, but we may see a renovation.

The other one is actually big in a small way. Old Country section has been blocked off for several seasons now. Old country is a small area with two or three flats, a showcase theater, an outdoor pic-nic thingy i have never been to, and a small restaurant. Ever since the Media Day of The Dark Knight, the area has been SBNO except that pic-nic area. In the area, there's two ways to enter, Movietown (which has gates now, only to allow you to go to the pic-nic area) and Main Street/ Fantasay Forest, which has been blocked off by a random and useless Cabana rental area, which in my mind should be in Hurrican Habor, and a basketball prize game, which has been use plenty of times. One of the pictures looks to be that there is no Cabana area and basketball prize game. This might be a re-opening of Old Country. Nothing Confirmed, a possible "rumor"

Austin
01-17-2010, 03:43 PM
Is Twister the same as breakdance at SFKK? If it is we've seen the same thing here. a few years back all the ride vehicles were stripped, and the inside was opened up and was being worked on for a long period of time.

palmer
01-17-2010, 04:11 PM
No, Breakdance is a Huss Breakdance, which is very much different. Twister is a Huss Top Spin. GADV use to have a Huss Breakdance call Rodeo Stampede, now is El Toro.

The water park in Atlanta is completely separate from SFOG. I don't think the water park would be on SFOG's Screamscape page.

So basically, Six Flags owns a water park that is not in the area of the Six Flags theme park? That's different. Well, SFOG is in Austell, which is less than a half an hour way from Atlanta (via Google maps). So it's about 1/2 away. At least they don't say something like SFGAm is right next to Chicago (which is wrong, about an hour away or so).

Tonight was the meeting to discuss 2010 park improvements for SFNE.

Heres what is going to happen for 2010.

The 1st project discussed was the addition of a new entrance and ticket booths in the premier and handicap lot. You will no longer have to drive to the back where the employee lot is and then drive all the way back to the front to get into the premier lot. When you pull in you will go to the left where they will have new ticket booths to get into the lot. The old entrance will be just for Employees and Deliveries.

The 2nd project was the NEW Johnny Rockets which will be a new building constructed across from the Coral Reef Cantina and will be a walk up style JRs like the one on Main st.

The 3rd Project was the Mr Six Splash Island which is going to be an addition to the existing kiddie area near hurricane bay and will expand into the premier lot.

the 4th and 5th projects were Meet&Greet areas complete with photobooth to purchase your pic. One is going into the southend near the antique cars and Mind Eraser and the other is located at the entrance to Crack Axle Canyon.

the 6th Project is the construction of a 78,000 sqft warehouse that will be used for food storage and Merchandise and will have 2,000 sqft of offices. It will have its own parking lot and 2 shipping bays.

The last project is tabled until it goes through the conservation committee.
